Ferencvaros will face Budapest Honvéd in the OTP Bank Gameweek 27 match on Saturday, the 15th of April. The match will take place at Groupama Aréna stadium in Budapest. Kick-off is at 19.30 CET.

 

Budapest Honvéd was established in 1909. The team enjoyed a golden age during the 1950s when it was renamed Budapesti Honvéd SE and became the Hungarian Army team. The club's top players from this era, Ferenc Puskás, Sándor Kocsis, József Bozsik, Zoltán Czibor, and Gyula Grosics helped the club win the Hungarian League four times during the 1950s and also formed the nucleus of the legendary Hungarian national team popularly known as the Mighty Magyars.During the 1980s and early 1990s, the club enjoyed another successful period, winning a further eight Hungarian League titles. They also won league and cup doubles in 1985 and 1989. In 1991, the club was renamed Kispest Honvéd FC and adopted its current name in 2003. Budapest Honvéd is coached by Croatian manager Dean Klafurić since October of this year. The team is currently 11th in the bottom of the table, with 28 points after 26 matches.  

 

This is going to be the fifth match against Honvéd with Stanislav Cherchesov as Ferencvaros coach. Ferencvaros won four previous matches - 1-0 and 2-1 last season, followed by 3-1 and 2-0 earlier this season. 

 

"The most important thing now is to get back on the winning track. We lost the last match in Paks but the squad made every effort to secure a better result. Unfortunately, the luck was not on our side as the opponent was awarded with two penalty kicks and we were short of men as one of our players saw a red card. We have to improve against Honvéd. This is going to be a derby match and the opponent's current standing in the table does not matter as they need points to avoid relegation", said Cherchesov to the official website of Ferencvaros before the match.
